The best haircut I saw

My best haircut story is one I observed at my favorite barber shop in NYC. Ahead of me were 3 Puerto Rican teenagers--maybe 17 yrs old. Two had short fades and a caesar on top. The third had his hair in a pony tail, maybe 6 inches long.

When it was his turn, the barber "Macho" a young hispanic guy asked how he wanted it; the story came out: the 3 were cousins, the long hair had just come from PR, his cousins were encouraging him to get a "real" New York cut--meaning a fade. Macho said that would be too much, he asked the kid if he wanted it cut short. The boy said yes, but looked so nervous. Macho combed his hair out--it was the best head of hair: shiney, black, straight and very thick. Then he told the kid to take a last look at the hair and spun the chair to face the window (he always does this so you can't see the progress of the haircut).

He grabbed the clippers and was shearing so much hair I kept thinking oh this poor kid is gonna end up with a military cut. But Macho took his time and cut the sides and back into a tight taper (starting with a zero and blending up to a dark fade on the sides and back), then he scissor cut the top to maybe an two inches all over. He was lopping off like ten inches with each snip.

The kid in the chair was sitting so still and anxious. Macho put in gel and the kid''s hair really shined--looked wet--and brushed it to the front and up--a short Ricky Martin. There was so much hair on the cape and floor. When he spun the chair around the kid's jaw dropped. He was a handsome kid and the new cut--the contrast of the short sides and shiney top--looked great. The whole shop--about 12 people-- was in awe and shouted their compliments. The kid couldn't help but grin.

When his cousin got in the chair, he told Macho to just cut the sides, he was gonna let th etop grow so he could look like the just shorn cousin!
