Vacation Mistake

A true story

Mark a work colleague of mine and a few of his mates went on vacation to Thailand for three weeks. On Sunday, the day before he was due to return to work I received a telephone call from him saying he needed to see me urgently. I told him to meet me in the local pub as he only lived five minutes away.

I arrived before Mark and ordered the beer for both of us. A couple of minutes later Mark arrived with a hat on covering his hair. "What's with the hat?" I asked as I handed him his beer. Mark took his hat off to reveal he had dyed his hair blond while on holiday. "Did you lose a bet?" I asked. Mark took a long drink and then explained that his mates and him had a few drinks one night and decided that it would be good idea if they dyed their hair blond. Mark said that the next afternoon after a few beers they went to a local shop and bought the hair dye and went back to the hotel room where they each dyed each others hair before sitting on the balcony to let the dye take effect. Mark then said that the mistake was that they had some more beer and fell asleep so when they woke up the dye had been on for nearly three hours. Mark also said that the sun had been on the balcony so that the heat of the sun had affected it. When they washed out the dye the hair had gone like straw even with loads of hair conditioner. Mark then asked me if there was anything I could do. "You could shave it off or wait for it to grow out." I told him. Mark looked at me horrified at the suggestion of going bald. "But I have never had my hair shorter than five or six inches long!" Mark exclaimed. Mark also confessed that he had never been to a barber as he mum trimmed it every month and had never used clippers. "What, you have never tried a buzz cut?" I asked. "No." Mark replied.

Mark and myself had a couple of more beers and I tried to persuade him that he really should lose the hair as the dye had caused a lot of damage. I told Mark that I would have to leave soon as a mate was coming round for his monthly zero buzz. Mark decided that he would come with me and may try a #4 buzz after I had clipped my mates hair.

When we arrived back at my place Ashley was just pulling up in his car. The three of us went in and I got the beer out and set up in the bathroom for Ashley to have his usual buzz. Mark stood in the doorway as I buzzed Ashley and looked quite pale as Ashley's hair quickly fell to the floor. Ashley stood up and brushed the hair from his shoulders and quickly lest as he had to get to work. As I shut the door I turned to Mark and asked him if he was ready to lose the hair to a #4 buzz. Mark reluctantly agreed and sat down while I placed the #4 attachment onto the clippers. He asked if it would be as short as Ashley's and I told him no. Placing the clippers at the nape of his neck I slowly pushed them through the blond hair. Mark was close to tears as he saw the first clumps of hair fall into his lap. Mark saw how short the hair was being cut when the clippers removed the hair from the side of the head leaving a ½ inch of hair instead of six inches. After I finished Mark washed his hair and put loads of conditioner on leaving it to soak in. When Mark washed the conditioner out the hair was still as bad as before. I told Mark the only way to cure it was to go completely bald like me. Mark looked in the mirror and then at me. "Are you sure?" Mark asked. "Yes." I replied. Mark sat back down and put the towel over his shoulders.

"Do it before I change my mind." Mark told me.

I picked up the clippers and set it to the shortest point. Without asking Mark I pushed the clippers through the hair on top of his head, reducing it to a mere fine stubble so he could not change his mind. Ten minutes later I was removing the last of Mark's dyed hair.

"Doesn't look to bad." Mark told me.

"It will grow back quite quick." I reassured him.

"Teach me not to do silly things on holiday again." Mark sighed,

"Say you lost a bet to the people at work." I told him.

"Yeah, why not." Mark replied.

The next day at work Mark got a lot of compliments about his shaved head and a lot of people suggested he kept it like it for the summer.

Mark has yet to decide if he will stay bald, but he has admitted to liking the bald look.
